A Store Keeper in the FMCG industry is responsible for managing inventory, receiving and issuing goods, maintaining stock accuracy, ensuring proper storage conditions, and supporting smooth warehouse operations. The role requires close coordination with procurement, logistics, sales, and finance teams to ensure uninterrupted product availability while maintaining accurate inventory records and complying with company policies and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Inventory Management

Receive, inspect, and verify incoming goods against purchase orders, delivery notes, and invoices.

Record all stock movements accurately in the ERP or inventory management system.

Maintain optimal inventory levels to prevent stock shortages or overstocking.

Monitor inventory turnover and identify slow-moving, fast-moving, and obsolete items.

Conduct daily, weekly, monthly, and annual stock counts and reconcile discrepancies.

Implement FIFO (First In, First Out) and FEFO (First Expired, First Out) inventory practices.

Goods Receiving & Inspection

Verify quantity, quality, and condition of received products.

Report damaged, expired, or incorrect items to procurement or suppliers.

Label products appropriately and arrange them in designated storage locations.

Ensure all receiving documentation is complete and accurately filed.

Stock Issuance

Issue materials and products based on approved requisitions.

Ensure timely dispatch of goods to customers, branches, or departments.

Prepare delivery notes, gate passes, and dispatch documentation.

Verify outgoing stock quantities before loading.

Warehouse Operations

Maintain an organised, clean, and safe warehouse environment.

Optimise storage space for efficient stock movement.

Ensure products are stored according to manufacturer recommendations.

Monitor warehouse conditions, including temperature and hygiene where applicable.

Documentation & Record Keeping

Maintain accurate inventory records.

Prepare stock reports for management.

Update bin cards, stock registers, and inventory software.

Archive receiving and issuing documents systematically.

Inventory Control

Investigate inventory variances.

Track damaged, expired, returned, and defective products.

Coordinate with finance during inventory audits.

Minimise stock losses through proper control procedures.

Safety & Compliance

Follow company safety policies and warehouse procedures.

Ensure compliance with health, safety, and quality standards.

Maintain proper housekeeping within the warehouse.

Ensure safe handling of products and warehouse equipment.

Coordination

Coordinate with procurement regarding incoming shipments.

Work with logistics for dispatch scheduling.

Support sales teams by ensuring product availability.

Assist finance with inventory valuation and stock reconciliation.

Reporting

Prepare daily stock movement reports.

Generate inventory status reports.

Report stock shortages and replenishment requirements.

Monitor expiry dates and near-expiry inventory.
